Day 6 - around Mt Fuji

Woke to the sound of pouring rain on the roof of our little cabin. Still no sign of the great mountain and not really feeling optimistic about getting a glimpse. Luckily there are many other sights to see and food to eat and sake to drink in the area. We have a two day pass on the sight seeing bus and set out to use it.  First stop was the 'Wind cave' which was formed by lava flows from Mt Fuji erupting years ago. During winter ice forms in the cave and it was used as refrigeration in the past for seeds and silk worm eggs.  There was a small amount of ice there today and it certainly was very chilly down there. The next stop was a street food van for some delicious noodles. Yum! Finally we took a tour of a sake brewery which was very interesting. It is a family owned business that has been in the same family for 21 generations.  It was great to find out more about the process of making sake and the different types and flavours. We tasted three very different types at the end of the tour and just had to get some to bring home to share. The owner also showed us her traditional house and 300 year old garden which was incredibly beautiful and so generous of her to share it with us.  Supplies in hand for dinner and a night in we headed back to the cabin.  And it is still raining.
